Study on Teacher Attitudes and Beliefs, and their Influence on Achievement Gap: The following is a study done by Epryl King and Priscilla Pryor of Gannon University's Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction Cohort Program. This study examines teacher attitudes about African-American student learning and how those attitudes may influence the gap. The action-research project goal was to determine if staff development exploring research related to the gap could impact teacher attitudes about African-American students. The premise was that many teachers have misconceptions about African-American students' learning, which if corrected, could make a positive impact on how they teach African-American students. Our belief was that if we could change their beliefs about teaching African-American students, that they would change their teaching practices, thus having a positive impact on student learning of this group.
